Hey you sun-drunk social justice starfishes,
While Pokemon Go is likely the most recent shiny new thing to blow up our feeds, the events of the past week deserve some attention too. How has your organization been talking/not talking about Alton Sterling / Philando Castile / Dallas / and the #BlackLivesMatter movement? Has it come up in the hallway or the watercooler or while buying clothes together at Ross?
Has your organization crafted a message and carefully selected a photo to accent the tone? Is that enough?
As stewards of community health, it is our duty to check-in with each other. If we can’t start important and challenging conversations about privilege, race and gun violence--who can? Our politicians are acting slower than Boardwalk traffic, and it feels frustrating, chaotic and dystopian.
But hey--we are the ‘young’ ones, right? Let us inhale, exhale and listen.
Albert Einstein once said, “The world we have made as a result of the level of thinking we have done thus far creates problems that we cannot solve at the same level at which we have created them... We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humankind is to survive."
Perhaps our generation can solve the problems our society faces by thinking differently.
Perhaps we can’t.
But let’s talk about it.
